The Decorative Fabrics Association, DFA, was founded in 1932 by nine wholesale fabric distributors for the purpose of regulating and maintaining high industry standards and practices. Currently there are sixty members of leading fabric houses who do business primarily with interior designers and architects, as well as producers of fine furniture design divisions of department stores, hotels and corporate space planning offices.

- Collaborates with environmental agencies to keep abreast of changes in national and international trade legislation
- Was instrumental in establishing the 5/10 code exclusive to the industry.
- Lobbies to protect the industry from higher taxations on imported fabrics and textiles.
- Remains actively involved in the current changes of fire toxicity codes.
- Is involved in improving service by providing education about the care and use of their products.
- Supports activities which increase consumer awareness as to the indispensable value of an interior designer.
